FIVE FACTS FROM THE SOURCE (Embedded):
In Central Virginia the latest incidents are the mistreated sick animals. Debora Schnackenberg the Vice President of the Animal Protection Division of the American society is now speaking out to the public of the awareness of mistreated pets when she states, “What I think we are seeing is a lot more public awareness about animal welfare”.
Now there has become a new way of abuse called animal hoarding. As individuals use hoarding as keeping certain items for a long period of time in a very messy environment but now animals are used for that cause. As Schnackenberg exclaims, “A lot of hoarding behaviors come from a psychological perspective”, as some people do get it psychologically when they don’t want to throw away things that they have had for a long time.
Hoarding animals is worse than hoarding clothes or food. As Schnackenberg states, “ The true sorrow of hoarding when the hoarder is collecting animals is the fact that the objects don’t suffer but creatures do”. The animals are suffering for no specific reason they are kept in a very unsafe environment by the watch of their abusing owners.
Individuals regard animals or pets as their possessions, which is leading the animals into even more pain. People don’t value their animals they see them as toys but these animals need to be taken care of. They need to be neutered as, Price states, “these people don’t see the value of getting their animals spayed and neutered, they don’t see the value of socializing their animals”.
Services such as Madison –Greene Humane Society help individuals who own pets create a program that help a severe strain on all animals. Many individuals do care about the poor animals so many have been volunteering and helping out to prevent this situation. Price states, “It doesn’t matter whether a person has 10 animals or 20 people should use common sense”.

Credibility of Source:
Author or Site: Who is the author? What training have they had? If there is no author, examine the site. What is the purpose of the site? Who funds the site?
The author of the article is Alex Carrier, who is also the Special Correspondent. He has had various trainings in writing articles. He has wrote articles such as, Boomers Journey and Collide in Silence.

Attachment: Does the author or site have anything to gain from writing this, or is it simply informative? For example, is it a cigarette business posting an article about the benefit of cigarettes, or is it a scientific community unaffiliated with the cigarette business?
The article Alex Carrier wrote was just to simply inform readers.

Bias: Do you detect a bias (a favoring of either side) in the author's writing?
Yes, the article is bias. I say this because in the article only the negative affects of animal abuse are mentioned, not the positive.

References: Does the author cite references in the writing? If so, do these add or take away from the credibility?
Yes, the author uses Deborah Schnackenberg, Vice-President of the Animal Protection Division of the American Society. He uses her quotes in the article so people could see her perspective on the Animal abuse situation.

Use of Source: How will you use this source in your project?
I will use this source to inform people that animal abuse needs to stop. That people are coming up with a lot of various ways to abuse these animals such as hoarding. Many animal owners that abuse these innocent animals don't see beyond the harm that they have caused. The numbers of animal abuse in the country is arising. Indiviuduals use animals as there way of taking out their anger and this article shows the foundations and clubs that help save and protect these animals

Rationale for Choice

What about this topic appeals to you? Why did you choose it?
The reason this topic appeals to me is because i love animals and in general all animals should be treated with respect. Many people abuse animals due to the fact of not caring or using them for harmful purposes. I chose this subject because i have seen myself many innocent animals such as dogs being abused and there needs to be an end to it.
What do you already know about this subject?
I know about this subject due to the fact of commercials on  how many animals are being abandoned on the streets or abused by alcoholics or other purposes.
What are you hoping to learn about the subject?
I'm hoping to learn about this subject is a way to help these animals and also a way to spread the message and prevent the abuse and harm to a stop.
What are you most interested in regarding the topic?
I'm interested in the rescue system on  how these people help rescue the animals, and try to prevent them from harmful individuals.
What potential risks or challenges do you foresee for your project?
The risks i foresee is going to the shelters and seeing these animals faces abused, in pain, and many on the verge of dying.
